Matthew 17:18-21
18 And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” 20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, that if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, “Move from here to there’, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
When we pray and fast, we don’t do so to change God or His will. By praying and fasting, we are the ones changed. Coming into alignment with God helps us curb our doubts and fears. When we pray and fast, the thing that leaves -- the thing that “goes out”-- is our unbelief. It is when we have faith to believe, that we can pray with confidence and know that “nothing will be impossible” as we live to bring glory to God.
Ask God to strengthen our hearts to fully believe Him and believe His word. It is okay to recognize and acknowledge if you struggle with unbelief. It’s the first step in allowing God to strengthen your faith and bring you into alignment with His plan for your life.
What is it that you need faith to believe for?
Align yourself with God’s Word and will during this fast. Release your unbelief.
Pray with confidence, knowing “nothing will be impossible for you"
Note: When you fast your body detoxifies, eliminating toxins from your system. This can cause mild discomfort such as headaches and irritability during withdrawal from caffeine and sugars. And naturally, you will have hunger pains. Limit your activity and exercise moderately. Take time to rest. Fasting brings about miraculous results. You are following Jesus' example when you fast. Spend time listening to praise and worship. Pray as often as you can throughout the day. Get away from the normal distractions as much as possible and keep your heart and mind set on seeking God's face.
Having faith in God is so important to our lives. We can't make it each day if we don't have faith that He is working in and through us.
ReplyDeleteWhat's For Supper? Day 3
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone is having a great time in the Lord as you continue your fast. We've tried so many things and I forgot what it was like to cook every meal...yes, time consuming...but, oh the rewards! We started out real bland, but as the days progress and thanks to the internet, I've found some really good recipes.
For breakfast today, we had Oatmeat Raisin Cookies, Strawberry-Pear Smoothie, and a banana.
For lunch, we ate Lentil Soup (so good!) and baked potato chips. (I learned that I will slice a lot smaller next time to actually have a chip.)
For supper, I am planning Lima Beans, Steamed Squash, Carrots, & Peas, and Coconut Sweet Potatoes. I didn't mean to add two beans, but oh well, what's done is done.
I hope some of the recipes I've added help you in your fasting. Don't forget to include God in your day with prayer otherwise you're just on a diet. Happy Fasting!!
Oatmeal Raisin Cookie
1 cup oats
1 cup almond flour (I blended 1 cup oats to make the flour.)
1 cup peanut butter (There is an all natural peanut butter.)
1/2 cup mashed banana (You need this because of no eggs.)
1/2 cup raisins
1 tsp cinnamon
Preheat oven 350 degrees. Mix together and place on a baking sheet by spoonfulls and mash down to make the cookie. (They will bake into balls if not mashed down. Good for trail mix though.) Cook 10-12 minutes.
Baked Potato Chips
Peel & slice 2-3 potatoes thinly
Place on baking sheet and drizzle 1 1/2 Tbsp Olive Oil and 1/4 tsp Salt and 1/8 tsp Pepper (if you're using salt and pepper) over the top of the potato slices. You can mix the oil, salt and pepper with the potatoes in a bowl before placing on the baking sheet.
Preheat oven 375 degrees. Bake 30 minutes. Flip and cook 15 minutes more on the other side.
Lentil Soup (very good!)
4 cups water or vegetable broth
1 cup lentils
1 cup Chick Peas (I used Northern Beans.)
1/2 cinnamon
1/2 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp salt (if using)
1/2 TBSP Olive Oil
1/2 cup Carrots
1/2 cup Red Onion
Bring water to a boil and add lentils, beans, cinnamon, cumin, & salt. Let boil for 20 minutes. While it is boiling, dice the carrots & onion. Place in a pan and cook with Olive Oil until onion is transluscent. Add to the soup and cook for another 10 minutes. (I had to add water twice to keep the beans as a soup mixture.)
Lima Beans
2 cups frozen Lima Beans
2 TBSP Chopped parsley
1/2 tsp salt (if using)
1/4 tsp thyme
1/2 TBSP Olive Oil
1/3 cup Chopped Onion
Fix the lima beans by the directions then drain juice. Cook the onions in a pan with the olive oil until they are transluscent. Add to the lima beans, then add the parsley, salt, and thyme right before serving.
Steamed Peas, Carrots, & Squash
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic (minced)
1/2 salt
1 cup carrots
1 cup peas
1 1/2 cup squash
Mix all together and steam until squash and carrots is limp. I might would add the peas before serving next time. NOTE: Probably not, it's very good steamed.
Coconut Sweet Potatoes
2-3 large sweet potatoes
1 TBSP Orange Juice
1 tsp orange zest
1/4 cup coconut flakes (toasted & unsweetened)
1/4 finely chopped pecans
1/4 tsp cinnamon
Pinch nutmet
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake until sweet potatoes are tender (about an hour). Prick with a fork and wrap in aluminum foil. Put potatoes and orange juice in a blender until smooth. Add nutmeg, cinnamon, and orange zest. In a seperate bowl combine coconut and pecans. Oil the baking sheet. Wet hands slightly and roll potatoe mixture into a ball. (golf ball size) Roll in coconut and pecans and bake 15 minutes. Serve immediately.
